Overview & Reviews
Lexus has introduced a completely redesigned ES 300 for 2002. The new car is roomier and quieter than the previous car, and in many ways has become more closely aligned with the LS 430 flagship model. Safety and feature quotients have been increased, and the car is wrapped in a svelte new body.
- Nice array of luxury and convenience features, strong and silent V6, advanced safety technology.
- Many of the desired features are optional and expensive.

disappointed - 2002 Lexus ES 300
By pricklypear - May 17 - 2:00 amToo many problems for a luxury car: computer failure on braking system, jerky transmission, and inferior tires. Had to replace Toyo tires at 20,000 miles due to very loud road noise. The cost of replacement was partially covered by warranty. Poor radio reception without external antenna. Poor gas mileage for a car with no "Get up & go" performance.

Not Your Fathers Lexus - 2002 Lexus ES 300
By Skippo - April 22 - 10:00 amI was torn between the value of the Acura S TL and the sheer comfort to the Lexus ES300. The Acura was faster, sportier, but gee I just sold my SVT Cobra Convertable. So I knew what performance was all about and the Acura cant hold a prayer against SVT. So I spent more money for comfort, Audio, smooth ride and it was the best decission Ive made in a long time.

2002 Luxury Lexus - 2002 Lexus ES 300
By SC Senior - April 18 - 3:53 pmI love this car. It is comfortable and has a beautiful interior (burgundy and wood). The rear window shade keeps the car cooler in the SC summer heat. Great on long trips, heated seats great for back pain plus gets good mileage (30mpg). City driving mileage around 18-19 mpg.

Everything good but transmission - 2002 Lexus ES 300
By Kelvin - March 5 - 10:00 amI love everything except the slow- respond, not-smooth transmission. This is not what I expect from a Lexus. Sometimes its getting so annoying that I hate my car. Other than that, everything else is soooooooo nice.

Disappointment - 2002 Lexus ES 300
By david111 - January 21 - 10:00 amI have bought seven GM cars so far, and would like to try something different. So I went to the Lexus dealership and drove the ES300. The car looks great in the showroom. Interior material is something that GM cant even match. Build quality is good, but gaps between body panels are wider than those on the Acura. The driving experience was disappointing: The steeling wheel rattles when the engine is cold, and the screen of the navigation system is rubbing against the frame and sqeeking noise can be heard when the road is bad. I cant believe this happened on a Lexus, becuase a New GM vehicle (say less than a month old on Michigan roads) wont do that.

PERFECT SEDAN - 2002 Lexus ES 300
By *VERY NICE* - January 6 - 8:46 amThis is our 3rd lexus, and each one has been wonderful! You cant beat the price and perfection that lexus offers. Any lexus easily can recieve 200,000 miles or more and run like a charm. The ES-300 is unmatchable by german auto-makers. This car is truely a nice riding mid-sized luxury riding machine period.

3 Lexus Family - 2002 Lexus ES 300
By Stu - September 14 - 3:16 amI was so impressed with the ownership experience of my 00 RX 300 that I had to buy another Lexus. The exterior impresses friends and looks like a 70k+ Mercedes or Bimmer. Extremely powerful, reliable, and great gas mileage. Interior leather and wood trim really make the car. VSC, traction control, ABS brakes, and eight airbags really offer peace of mind. I would highly recommend this vehicle to someone who wants efficiency of a family sedan with a Mercedes S class feel. I would not drive anything else but a Lexus. My next car will be a lexus too.

By okie - August 8 - 2:00 amI have owned the 2002 ES300 for 4 1/2 months and love the car. It is very quiet and smooth around town and on the highway. Very comfortable. It could use a more power but is adequate. Build quality is outstanding.

Transmission and Brakes - 2002 Lexus ES 300
By Alabama Gal - June 7 - 10:00 amMy brakes had to be replaced at around 15,000 miles due to warped rotors. This also meant replacing the tires. Fortunately Lexus covered the cost. I just had them replaced again at 39,500 miles, at my cost. Was told that the area I live in is to blame since it is slightly mountainous. My husband has 70,000 miles on an 02 Yukon and has never had brake problems. I also would have like a smoother shift in the transmission. They did the computer changeover, but it is no better. When I took it in last I was told the brake replacement at 14K+ was a recall. When I called Lexus I was told there had never been a recall on the 02 Lexus.

Great car but watch out for rattles.... - 2002 Lexus ES 300
By RSinTx - May 4 - 10:00 amIve had my ES300 for about 2 months now. I love it except for the fact that I had to take it back 6 time to get rid of a rattle comming from the passenger door. (After sending out a factory engineer, it was determined that the car needed re-welding.)While they were at it, Lexus also got rid of a couple other rattles. Rattles notwithstanding, however, this is truly a wonderful car to drive.
